Came across this in the book The Prize all about the petroleum industry history.

A Wise Old Owl Lived in an Oak
The More He Saw the Less He Spoke
The Less He Spoke the More He Heard
Why can’t we all be like that old bird?

This recalls to me an old saying (presumably) I read in a long forgotten work of fiction.
